Nordwind Airlines Launches First Direct Flight Between Russia and North Korea

On Sunday, Nordwind Airlines launched the first direct flight connecting the capitals of Russia and North Korea, with a plane departing Moscow for Pyongyang.

The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, granted the airline permission earlier this month to operate regular flights between the two capitals.
The aircraft servicing the route is a Boeing 777-200ER, which has a capacity of 440 passengers. The estimated flight time is just over eight hours.
Tickets went on sale July 18, starting at 44,600 rubles, and were sold out by July 22. According to the Russian Transport Ministry, the flights will operate once a month.
Air traffic between Russia and North Korea resumed in August 2023, following a suspension in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
North Korea’s airline, Air Koryo, already operates flights between Vladivostok and Pyongyang three times a week. Russian citizens can only visit North Korea as part of organized tourist groups.
This July, a new tourist complex named Wonsan-Kalma opened on the coast of the Sea of Japan.
